Description

Mounjaro is a prescription drug that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro is prescribed to be taken along with a balanced diet and exercise which help manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.

The active ingredient Tirzepatide works by activating two receptors called GLP-1 and GIP to increase the level of incretins – hormones - in the body. It works by helping your body to produce more insulin when needed. It also reduces the amount of glucose, or sugar, produced by the liver, and slows down how quickly food is digested. This all helps to lower blood sugar levels and HbA1c.

The drug comes as a liquid solution in a prefilled pen -1 pen containing 2.4 ml solution for injection for subcutaneous use that can be administered (4 doses) under your skin, typically once per week or as directed by your doctor. You can inject the solution under the skin of your abdomen or front of your thigh or on the back of your upper arm (with a caregiver).

How to use

  • Use Mounjaro exactly as prescribed by your doctor and follow all directions on your prescription label.
  • Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) of your stomach (abdomen), thigh, or upper arm.
  • Use Mounjaro 1 time each week with or without meals at any time of the day - same day each week as precribed exactly by your Doctor.
  • Do not mix insulin and Mounjaro together in the same injection.
  • Wipe your skin with a swab, and let the injection site dry before you inject your dose.
  • You may give an injection of Mounjaro and insulin in the same body area (such as your stomach area), but not right next to each other.
  • Change (rotate) your injection site with each weekly injection. Do not use the same site for each injection.
  • If you take too much Mounjaro, call your healthcare provider or seek medical advice promptly.
  • Do not change your dose unless your doctor has told you to.
  • It is important to drink fluids to help reduce chances of dehydration.
  • Do not freeze Mounjaro.
